Ronit D. Appel Jewish American Israeli Artist Original Acrylic Painting
Original Framed Acrylic on Canvas Painting by American/Israeli Artist Ronit D. This painting, depicting a Jewish family walking home on Friday evening as the Shabbat candles burn brightly in the windows of the homes, is set in the Yemin Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem, right outside the Old City of Jerusalem. The title of the painting is a verse in the Lecha Dodi prayer, a prayer sung in synagogues on Friday evening to welcome the Shabbat. The verse refers to Jerusalem as a King’s sanctuary, a city of royalty. Size: Approximately 22 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches (with frame). Approximately 16 x 12 inches (unframed). The painting is signed in Hebrew and in English on the front and back of the painting. It is titled on the back of the painting. Born in 1986 and raised in an Orthodox Jewish family in New York, Appel’s connection to Israel blossomed when she visited Israel for the first time at the age of 11. Since then, Israel became the focal point of Appel’s life and at the young age of 17, she immigrated to Israel, where she studied Law and Government in Hebrew, mastering the language in a short period of time. Appel did what many would have thought impossible, earning a highly-coveted position as a member of the school’s Law Review and graduating with honors, near the top of her class. In 2013, Appel’s law career was derailed when she was abruptly terminated from a NYC law firm she had worked at for years after refusing to cooperate with corruption at the firm. That incident was a pivotal moment in Appel’s life. Though what should have been a brilliant career as a lawyer was derailed, Appel was propelled to new horizons. A great admirer of both Jewish/Israeli art and art of the Arab world, in July of 2013, Appel opened a fine art gallery in Manhattan specializing primarily in Jewish and Israeli art and art of the Arab world. The following year, a local publication described Appel as a NYC Renaissance woman. In 2018, Appel began creating her own art and within just a few years her beautiful paintings could already be found in collections throughout the United States. Like many great artists, Appel’s past is rife with tragedy. But Appel’s art is a story of triumph and of light. It is the story of the city of Jerusalem. This painting is offered for sale. Menashe Kadishman Israeli Art Original Oil on Canvas Painting Sheep
Kadishman was born in the British Mandate Palestine in 1932. His father, who was a pioneer, died when Kadishman was 15 years old. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he attended Saint Martin’s School of Art and the Slade School of Art. [2] During 1959 and 1960 he also studied with Anthony Caro and Reg Butler. [2] He remained here until 1972; he had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style, and so designed as to appear to defy gravity. This was achieved either through careful balance and construction, as in Suspense (1966), or by using glass and metal so that the metal appeared unsupported, as in Segments (1968). The glass allowed the environment to be part of the work. Kadishman lived and created in his house in the city center of Tel Aviv. Kadishman was divorced, has 2 children. His son, Ben, is also a painter and his daughter, Maya Kadishman, is an actress who is married to the artist, Eran Shakine. On May 8, 2015 Kadishman died after he was hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.
