Vintage 1963 ROBINSON MURRAY Midcentury Abstract Painting Boston Expressionist
Now is the time to get a hold of one of his works. Please see photos for condition. Framed in a simple vintage metal frame. Afterward, while earning his living as a commercial artist, he persued his studies at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, a part of the second generation Expressionists coming out of Boston. Before WWI, Murray worked in an advertising agency in Harrisburg PA, from which he resign to serve in France as part of the US Army. Awarded a number of recognitions in the Army, he continued painting as he could throughout the war. His family lived in Paris, London, and New York as he pursued his advertising career and continued his private art production. He retired to Duxbury in coastal Massachusetts and vigorously continued his painting over the next 30 years. The large majority of his works were only recently released to the public from the estate of his daughter. He served as president of the Duxbury art association in the late 50s, as he continued painting, sculpting and building. Painting was exploration for him, from the time he was a boy until his twilight years. His work was originally largely representational, but as time passed he pursued the intellectual challenges of further abstractions and expressions of the images he saw. Mass delineation, reduction to form and color, often working with a layered impasto effect to express his vision. Murray exhibited nationally and was presented with a number of awards including a few exhibits and awards after his death. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. Bobbed Beauty Bathtime : Original Oil Painting on Canvas by Jane Murray. This is one of a collection of brilliant Original Oil Paintings by the distinguished Figurative Painter Jane Murray. It is not by accident that her paintings are superb, She is one of the mosted Gifted Figurative Painters I have seen. Having trained under Tom Coates and taking her inspration from Joan Eardley her paintings have a presence that few can match. This contemporary original figurative painting which is Oil on Streched Box Canvas measures 12″ X 12″ inches approx and is in excellent condition with lovely vibrant colours. It is unframed but will be able to be hung on the wall direct as it is a box canvas with white painted edges. It is signed of course by the artist. I have been painting for over twenty years and professionally since 2008. I exhibit work in a number of local and online galleries and regularly sell work both in the UK and abroad. I studied Art at Strode College and have attended a number of local courses and workshops, including a portrait workshop with Tom Coates at The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol. My nostalgic paintings of children, drawn from images from the 1930’s to the 1960’s allow me to combine my love of portraiture with a looseness of style which I love. I hope you like them.
