A mandala (emphasis on first syllable; Sanskrit????? , ma?? ala – literally “circle”) is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. [1] In common use, “mandala” has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe. The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. Mandalas often have radial balance. The above Mandala is call Mantra Mandala (Om Mane Padme Hun). O? Ma? I padme hu? (Sanskrit:???????????? , IPA: [õ?? m?? ip? D? Me?? u?]) is the six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan:?????????????? Chenrezig, Chinese: Guanyin, Japanese:???? Kannon or Kanzeon, Mongolian:??????????????? Migjid Janraisig), the bodhisattva of compassion. The first word Om is a sacred syllable found in Indian religions. The word Mani means “jewel” or “bead”, Padme is the “lotus flower” (the Buddhist sacred flower), and Hum represents the spirit of enlightenment. It is commonly carved onto rocks, known as mani stones, or else it is written on paper which is inserted into prayer wheels. When an individual spins the wheel, it is said that the effect is the same as reciting the mantra as many times as it is duplicated within the wheel.

Welcome to Our Gallery (Gallery for original Tibetan And Nepalese Arts). Title : Tibetan buddha life mandala. Size : 100x70cm approx (40×25 inches). Material : Gold leaf & Stone colors. Base : Linen Cotton canvas. Signature : Signed on the back of the painting. This thangka paintings of the life of the Buddha depicts key episodes in the life of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Gautama Buddha. These major events are traditionally called within the Mahayana sources the ” Twelve Great Deeds of the Buddha’s Life “??????????????? . The Twelve Great Deeds of the Buddha’s Life are. Descent from Tushita heaven. Entering the womb of his mother, Mayadevi. Becoming skilled in various arts. Delighting in the company of royal consorts. Developing renunciation and leaving the royal palace. Practicing austerities for six years. Striving for enlightenment to the foot of the bodhi tree. Turning the wheel of Dharma. The paintings of the Buddha’s life at times portray more of the meaningful events and encounters in his life other than these twelve deeds. At the early Theravada tradition the deeds are divided differently. The descent from Tushita. Entering the mother’s womb. Passing into nirvana or parinirvana. These thangka paintings are not meant to be solely illustrations of the events in the life of the historical Buddha, but they are also seen to be a visual representation of different philosophical aspects of Buddhism, especially the gradual progress towards the achievement of spiritual enlightenment.
